A Week in Taiwan - Day 7 November 27, 2005

Posted by Martin in : Overseas Travel , trackback

We returned to the market the following morning for some further shopping. After that all of us traveled to the beach. I loved the novelty of taking Miss Piggy for a walk so she came along too in the car, which was a novel, but memorably smelly journey. Whilst Sue and Wenjing visited a lady about her horse Tik, myself Ella and Claire relaxed and built a large sandcastle together.

As it got dark we drove further down the coast to an area where Taiwanese couple spend their time. Here Taiwanese Romeos buy fireworks and sets them off as a display of their affection to their partner. Tik and I enjoyed lighting a Chinese lantern and letting it float up to the sky. Tradition holds that the longer the lantern flies, the greater the couples’s prospects are. We were delighted to see our lantern float straight up, and Wenjing remarked that our lanterns flight was the best he’d ever seen. Seems a perfect metaphor for our relationship.

We spent a few hours that evening at Valentines Bridge, a leisure area, with an illuminated suspension bridge similar to the bridge in Southport, crossing over to an area similar to Albert docks - with cafes, bars and entertainment to keep us busy.
