A Khon Kaen Wedding Party April 8, 2006
Posted by Martin in : Thailand , trackbackTi, Lisa and I set off by car from Bangkok late morning, arrived in Khon Kaen about 5pm. Mark and Raquel stayed in Bangkok. We spent the night at the Sofitel Hotel so that we could attend a wedding party there. The wedding was between a Thai girl called Anne whom Tik went to university with and John – an Englishman working as a teacher in Khon Kaen.
A morning Thai wedding seems to be very much secondary to the wedding party. Many more people attend in the evening and it seems normal to miss the relatively mundane wedding rituals prior. This particular wedding party was nice enough. Tik was keen to reunite with many old university friends and lecturers. We were a little late and didn’t get the preference with seating so we were placed on a table with only Thais. Throughout the meal we managed to move ourselves over to a table with the farangs on. The celebrations lasted only a couple of hours and comprised of a generic photo slideshow of the couples memories, small amount of food, two short speeches (nothing from the groom though) and some live background music. It is possible that Tik and I might have our wedding party at the Sofitel next year so we have a few more ideas as to what we like and what we don’t.
