Advanced Diving Course in Koh Tao April 16, 2006
Posted by Martin in : Thailand , trackbackTo me this was the true highlight of the holiday. I love diving, I love Koh Tao and I’ve been itching to contine my diving course for some time.
We arrived in Koh Tao early afternoon via catamaran from Koh Phangnan. Of all the places to visit in Thailand Koh Tao is by far my favourite. What makes this island so special is that it is exclusively developed for divers. Every person here is a diving enthusiast so it is easier here to make friends as it is in Pattaya to meet bar-girls.
There are bars on the island but most people dive the next day so people drink sensibly here. The food is a delight - in fact the cafes in Koh Tao are perhaps the best in Thailand. Prices are reasonable, generous even considering that the island is quite small. Motorcycle drivers are polite, nobody hussles you. Rooms are cheap, locals are honest. Even the dogs which wander around are playful and happy. I could very easily spend a few months on Koh Tao; diving every day, getting fat from the great food, and getting itchy from all the cute dogs that come to play.
We arrived early afternoon. I enrolled in my Advanced PADI course and Lisa enrolled in the Open-Water (Preliminary) course. Tik was very keen to study with Lisa however decided instead to wait a few months longer so that she could gain more confidence swimming first.
Consequently Lisa, Tik and I had three independent holidays here. I was to do five dives over 2 days. Lisa was to do her course over 4 days and Tik was to read her books between the times when she had time to met us for lunch.
This time we stayed at Easy Lodge (or someting similar to that) which is run by Easy Divers - the excellent school we are studying at. We were about ten minutes walk from the town and up a frustratingly steep hill but our rooms were comfortable and clean.
