The Last 30 Seconds of an Ant’s Life July 26, 2005
Posted by Martin in : Thailand , trackbackIt took just 5 minutes between me taking my tray of sushi out of the fridge for it to get completely covered in ants!
Thai architecture defines itself by consistently overlooking huge gaps behind cupboards, toilets and baths where ants make themselves at home.
On reflex I threw my sushi tray into my water heater and was quite amazed to discover an interesting lesson in myrmecological survival.
It seems that ants can swim, and they were making little ant islands in the centre of their lake of death. Perhaps 50 or so little ants floated together and they rotated their positions to allow each ant the chance to be at the top of the heap.
Unfortunately Darwinian philosophy overcame their hard work and they all boiled to death. Nonetheless I hope their last few seconds of life gave them pleasure in knowing that I was impressed by their sense of teamwork.

A heartlessly cruel, but nonetheless highly amusing tale.
I simulataneously condemn your insect cruelty and praise your literary skills in sharing it with us
