The Night Dive! April 18, 2006
Posted by Martin in : Thailand , trackbackThe night dive was the most incredible dive I’ve yet experienced and it took me days to come down from the exhilaration I felt. We hit the water at sundown which allowed us to ease ourself into the darkness without overwhelming ourselves.
To me the beauty was not so much in what we saw but more the perfectly relaxing environment itself. There is minimal noise in the water and as daylight died the only light was that ouf our torch beams. This, coupled with the deeper and slower breathing makes nigh diving akin to meditation.
Twice I came within bubbling distance of giant turtles and I got to see a huge barracuda which took advantage of our flashlights to search for prey.
After diving, when I’m lying in bed at night with my eyes closed I can remember the sensations I’ve felt in the water. The experience of today has given me the most serene sleep I’ve had for years. I can’t wait to do it again.
Sadly though that’s the end of my diving for now. Tik has still to begin her Open Water course so I’m hopeful that she’ll do it in the next few months so that we can take dive holidays together.
Tomorrow Lisa completes her final two dives so I am excited to hear about her experiences.
