This Year’s Oscar Nominees April 2, 2006
Posted by Martin in : Thailand , trackbackIt’s been a shame that with Tik’s work and my studies we’ve gotten quite behind with the latest movies. I went out to pick up some more DVD’s last week despite having 500 DVDs at home which we still haven’t got around to viewing.
Brokeback Mountain was a reasonable film. I’d not watch it again though. The strong American accents made me quite thankful that the dialogue was limited. Perhaps though it detracted from making the movie especially emotional. The death of one of the partners should have been a very moving part of the movie but left me only a teeny bit sad.
A much better movie however was ‘The Constant Gardener’. The title did not really appeal to me, perhaps men associate gardens with mushy movies but I was very pleasantly surprised. The movie follows a British diplomat through Africa and London as he hunts for answers as to why his feisty wife was murdered. The movie is an enlightening focus on the lives of African villages and the influence of the first-world pharmaceutical industry upon poorer civilizations. I highly recommend this movie.
We’ve yet to watch ‘Crash’ yet but we have the DVD and look forward to seeing that as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
