Well Done Singapore Airlines
Full marks go to Singapore Airlines for perhaps the most comfortable flight of my life. Tik and I arrived with time to spare at Bangkok airport, me having stayed up all night and Tik having had a few hours sleep before leaving.
Our short flight to Singapore was pretty uneventful although our short stop there was inspirational. Unlike usual airports, Singapore was tastefully decorated with many plants, green furnishings and huge lounges with double-sofas. It had been nearly 4 hours since I’d been online so quite naturally I took the opportunity to visit the free internet terminals there but after reading the headlines of the airbus crash, decided I’d prefer to live in ignorance.
I’d bought myself the latest Harry Potter Book for my holiday, buying it last Saturday, starting it on the following Monday and frustratingly finishing it before we departed Singapore. I had nothing to read on the following 12 hour flight. I’m not proud to admit I enjoyed it. The language was suitably adult not to be patronizing, the story was light but fun and it was nice to escape from life for the hours it took to get through it.
The Singapore-London flight was fantastic. Tik and I were certainly tired and we’d have been happy with a couple of quiet seats and perhaps the odd movie to keep our brains alive. Instead we found a plane with rows of seats empty at the back and we were greedy enough to be able to stretch out completely over 4 adjacent seats each as well as leave our travel bags on our original seats. I got at least 6 hours of comfortable sleep and had the rest of the time to enjoy some genuinely digestible airline food and, documentaries, sitcoms and music on demand.
Some of the Singaporean air hostesses were so incredibly cute I doubt that should the plane have crashed and should we have ended up in heaven I’d have even noticed.
We even touched down in England 20 minutes earlier than planned.
