Moving into 2006 January 2, 2006

Posted by Martin in : Education, Thailand , trackback

Last year was, (as I am proud to reiterate) my best ever year. This year is going to be far better now that I’ve freed up nearly all of my time. New years are a natural benchmark for most people, but seeing as my move into central Bangkok is preceding my new study it’s a nice coincidence that my life restarts itself right now too.

On January 4th I begin my Gemology course which will finish in August, although I have a 6-week holiday from the end of March. Having had the chance to work through the course material it looks like I’m not in for an easy ride. In fact the first 180 pages of the book are covered in just the first 7 days, and that’s not touching on the actual work in the labs too. Despite the classes taking up only three hours of my day I am anticipating that the additional home-study will be quite demanding.

Barry will arrive here in less than 5 weeks, for a 2-week holiday which I’m very excited about. We’ll be able to get away for the weekends when he’s here and it’s always fun for me to host friends in Bangkok, especially as my new apartment is so ‘guestly’.

Following from that I’ve basically got the first eight months of the year to squirrel away as much money as I can. This won’t be hard seeing as how I’m committed to being in Bangkok every weekday, and, even expensive weekends abroad or in nice hotels will be fine.

My travelling will have to slow until August when Tik already have a room reserved for a weeks holiday in Italy. We’ll get a lot of weekends away I’m sure, probably to Hong kong, Singapore and around Thailand but, having made the most of the last two months it’ll make a nice change to just relax at home when I can.

I’m contented to let my telecom businesses slowly waste away, I’m bored of internet marketing and of e-commerce, and it’s been very refreshing not having to talk shop to people for the last 6 months. I’m very contented just building up assets and living off the passive income whilst I can.

During my long April holiday Lisa will be here so I’m hoping that we’ll get a chance to get some diving in down south, and also to go to Angkor Wat and enjoy Songkran with Tik’s family again.

Tik and I will begin condominium hunting over the coming few months and my plan is to have somewhere available for us around August time - just in time for us to leave Thailand and do some travelling. It’s going to be a challenge finding somewhere with better facilities and service than here, but when we find somewhere, you can bet it will be amazing.

2005 was a year I’d dedicated to sorting my finances out. It just so happened that I met the girl of my dreams too, which means that my relationships still rocking at 200% and there’s nothing I need to worry about or work on here We’ll be engaged in the next few months.

This year will be my year of education. I’m already committed to Gemology. Now that I am speaking predominantly in Thai with Tik and with my Thai friends I’m immersed in the opportunity to improve my speaking and listening skills. I’ll take between three and nine hours of week for some more private classes though. I’ve got a few unfulfilled educational ambitions which I hope to be able to squeeze in, once my Gemology course settles down.

I’m keen to continue my Aikido this year. I’ve got no excuse at all to not visit the lovely gym on premises, and I’ll certainly go swimming every day as my pools here are so great. I’ll be bumbling through the next 12 months with good health in mind oncemore.

Considering that I’ve engineered my life exactly how I want it to be already, there’s no real resolutions I’m going to make, but just the new lifestyle I’ll begin in a few days can only necessitate improvements and growth.

No one month has been the same since I moved to Thailand over 4 years ago and that’s just how I like it. no doubt things will change, plans will be uprooted daily, but the positive momentum and the general direction will certainly be maintained.
